Intelliden Awarded Patent for Network Asset Management and Reconciliation
New Capabilities Dramatically Increase Efficiency of Search, Storage and Management of Large, Complex Networks
Menlo Park, CA March 31, 2009 — Intelliden Inc., a leading provider of Intelligent Networking solutions that enable organizations to control, manage, and scale their networks, today announced that it has been awarded a new U.S. patent for a repository-independent system and method for asset management and reconciliation. The new patent provides a more structured and efficient mechanism for storing, searching, updating and reconciling network assets including physical and logical information.
As IP networks grow exponentially in size and sophistication to meet the ever-growing demands for greater connectivity, bandwidth and functionality, it has become increasingly difficult to manage the ensuing network complexity. Network device configuration files have increased in size to hundreds of thousands lines rendering it impossible to manage complexity through manual means. Further complicating the situation, devices must frequently be changed for service or operational reasons. This growing network complexity coupled with regulatory and operational requirements to maintain comprehensive historical records of network assets has resulted in the creation of sizable and often multiple repositories of device configurations. This makes it much harder to efficiently store, search, update and reconcile physical and logical network information and therefore limits network agility.
Intelliden’s US patent (#7,464,145) describes a repository-independent system and method for asset management and reconciliation. Specifically it provides the technology basis for managing critical network resource information in a more structured manner. This includes separation of how a device is configured from the actual configuration settings of that device, and results in a more efficient mechanism for storing, searching, updating and reconciling network assets. The patent covers both the physical device information such as chassis, slots, cards and ports as well as logical information such as service, security and routing.
"Our patent for asset management and reconciliation addresses the crippling complexity issues that network and IT organizations face as they continue to implement next-generation IP networks," said Glen Tindal, CTO of Intelliden. “With Intelliden, network managers can create a real-time database of record of critical network assets, and efficiently reconcile discrepancies between the actual state of the network and the information stored in external IT asset management systems such as Inventory and CMDB. They can also quickly respond to time sensitive compliance audits, identify any device misconfigurations and intelligently roll back to earlier versions of device configurations, if necessary.”
