Intelliden Chief Strategy Officer Presents Progress of Shared Information/Data (SID) Model at TeleManagement World
--Participating SID Companies Include AT&T, Bell Canada, British Telecom, France Telecom, Hewlett-Packard, MetaSolv, Motorola, NTT Group, Qwest, SBC, Telecom Italia and Vodafone--
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., May 19, 2004 - Intelliden Corporation, the intelligent networking company, today announced that its chief strategy officer, John Strassner, is scheduled to co-chair a panel session entitled "Latest Progress on the SID" during TeleManagement Forum's TeleManagement World held May 17-20, 2004, in Nice, France. Co-chaired by John Reilly of MetaSolv Software, this session gives a further update on the progress that has been made in defining the TeleManagement Forum's (TM Forum) Shared Information/Data (SID) model. The session, to be held on May 19 at 4:30 p.m. GMT, will demonstrate how the SID underpins the complete Next Generation OSS (NGOSS) framework.
The SID model consists of a set of object-oriented information and data models that represent concepts and entities in service provider and enterprise managed network environments. The SID model team, lead by Strassner and Reilly, provides the network configuration management industry with a common vocabulary. By agreeing on a shared set of information/data definitions and relationships, the team sets forth a standard vocabulary used in the definition of NGOSS architectures. Companies participating in the SID initiative include AT&T, Bell Canada, British Telecom, France Telecom, Hewlett-Packard, MetaSolv, Motorola, NIT Group, Qwest, SBC, Telecom Italia and Vodafone.
"The global communications industry needs technology advances that will reduce their time to market for new products and services. The best place to start is by achieving integrated management of network components with an agreed-upon common vocabulary," said Strassner.
"The SID team aims to accomplish this by connecting business priorities with network and IT resources. Suppliers have found that by producing integrated management components and solutions, product integration is simplified, thus decreasing the time it takes service providers to launch these new services."
The SID team continues to develop the four different views of the common information framework, which provides different ways to conceptualize the information/data entities:
1. A business view representation of the Business Entities that support the TM Forum's Telecom Operations Map (eTOM) processes
2. A system view representation in UML model format that supports a realization of a solution to meet the business need
3. An implementation view representation given in platform-specific language
4. A deployment view aimed at service assurance and performance
During Phase III, the team further developed Aggregate Business Entities (ABE) in the Customer, Product, Service, Resource, and Common Business Entities domains. Phase IV continued to focus on the Product, Service, Resource, and Common Business Entities domains and introduced the system view representation. Additionally, the relationships between the existing ABEs was further explored and captured in the SID information models.
Phase V of the SID model project builds on the success of the fourth phase of the project, completed in December 2003. It will continue the development of model content, as well as supporting other TM Forum projects. A key development was the conceptualization and modeling of the NGOSS contract. A contract defines, in a standard way, how people and applications interact. Liaison activities will also continue with other industry groups and forums such as the OSS through Java Initiative (OSS/J) and the Object Management Group (OMG). A prime directive of the SID team is to reuse information from other industry standards bodies and fora as appropriate.
Intelliden is also an exhibitor at TeleManagement World, and is located at booth 131.
