Intelliden Releases Version 3.0 of Intelliden R-Series Software
--Manages 5.6 Million Unique Commands Across 360 Device Models and Operating Systems;
Software Suite Consists of Four Intelligent Networking Product Pillars--
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Sept. 23, 2003 - Intelliden Corporation, the intelligent networking company, today announced the immediate availability of the Intelliden R-Series™ v3.0 software suite, further aligning network and IT resources with business priorities. With the Intelliden R-Series v3.0, networks become more intelligent and efficient by dynamically responding to business priorities, which allows businesses to reduce costs, optimize network resources, increase network security and accelerate service activation. The Intelliden R-Series software suite consists of four intelligent networking product pillars: Auditing and Reporting, Configuration and Control, Provisioning and Activation, and Security Management.
“The Global 2000 and government organizations face the continual challenge of reducing operational expenses, increasing the security of their network, and rolling out new services faster while optimizing resources,” said Zeus Kerravala, vice president, The Yankee Group. “The Intelliden R-Series v3.0 product pillars provide businesses and organizations with customized solutions to address these problems that have not been available to them before.”
With the Intelliden R-Series v3.0, customers can easily build customized solutions by leveraging the four pillars of the Intelliden R-Series. The software enables service providers, enterprises and government organizations to more efficiently run their complex IP infrastructures while increasing customer satisfaction, boosting revenue and ensuring compliancy.
“Customer response to the Intelliden R-Series version 3.0 software suite is terrific. They are leveraging it to meet the dynamic needs of their business environments,” said Dale Hecht, Intelliden president and CEO. “At this point there are only two ways to configure an IP device: either manually with CLI direct to the IP device, or quickly and securely with the Intelliden R-Series. The fact that we now manage 5.6 million commands and an infinite number of command variations—much more than a person or network operations center team can remember—gives customers the added benefits of cost reduction, improved security and scalability. In this era of on-demand networking, networks can no longer be manually managed. Intelliden solves this challenge by securely automating millions of commands and maximizing this capability via the four Intelliden product pillars.”
Intelliden R-Series Product Pillar Business Case
According to industry research:
• 84 percent of enterprises have experienced a security breach in the last year (InformationWeek).
• 70 percent of companies have not deployed a full business continuance plan (Gartner).
• 70 percent of manual service configurations fail the first time around (The Yankee Group).
• 60 percent of network records contain at least one error (The Yankee Group).
• 40 percent of network assets are stranded (The Yankee Group).
• One in three network changes generates an error (Intelliden research).
“With the Intelliden R-Series version 3.0, customers can be up and running quickly,” said Jeff Chapman, Intelliden vice president of product management. “They can select the features they’d like to use and bundle them together to meet their changing business needs. Each of the Intelliden R-Series pillars contains a series of software modules designed to solve key customer pain points.”
The Intelliden R-Series v3.0 is available today and deployable via a standards- and Web-based graphical user interface (GUI) or application programming interface (API). The four Intelliden product pillars are:
1) Intelliden Auditing and Reporting Pillar
The Intelliden R-Series Auditing and Reporting™ pillar provides extensive asset visibility and insight into who did what to the network—where, when and why. This significantly improves the management of network resources and processes.
Key Supporting Features: The Intelliden R-Series Auditing and Reporting pillar tracks and records all changes to the network. It enables an organization to identify whether these changes conform to network policies and to determine whether the changes were executed successfully. Detailed physical and logical inventories help customers better optimize network resources and improve return on invested capital. Management-level reporting is available for aggregating total changes per user or group, as well as by device type and inventory. Through the Intelliden R-Series API, customers can identify and catalog thousands of network devices and conduct inventory searches and retrievals. Reports can compare individual device configurations with other devices, as well as with standard “golden” configurations to determine whether the changes are in conformance with network and business policies.
2) Intelliden Configuration and Control Pillar
The Intelliden R-Series Configuration and Control™ pillar enables customers to increase control over their existing networks by eliminating costly manual processes, optimizing network resources and reducing network downtime.
Key Supporting Features: The Intelliden R-Series Configuration and Control pillar enables customers to automatically and simultaneously configure and control routers, LAN/WAN switches, firewalls and optical devices for 360 device models and operating systems from a variety of manufacturers—including Cisco, Juniper Networks and Nortel—all according to predefined business and network policies. Intelliden’s Command Sets™ let customers make multiple changes to multiple devices simultaneously. Task Wizards™ carefully and easily take users through the configuration change process. With the Intelliden solution, customers can define repeatable configuration tasks that can be stored and applied again as business needs dictate. Its unified control plane provides one common interface between the business and the IP network, providing instant service management control.
3) Intelliden Provisioning and Activation Pillar
The Intelliden R-Series Provisioning and Activation™ pillar enables customers to quickly define and activate new services by translating service orders into specific network changes. Revenue is realized faster and organizations can respond more quickly to changing business conditions. Because Intelliden can holistically configure any command on a device, any service can be activated, controlled and tracked via the R-Series software.
Key Supporting Features: The Intelliden R-Series Provisioning and Activation™ pillar has an API that seamlessly integrates service activation with other operational support systems (OSSs) in the network, including billing, customer care and in-house or off-the-shelf provisioning systems. A Task Wizard™ provides an easy, step-by-step guide to activating and managing services. It has the ability to define and automate reusable network configuration tasks to support specific services. The Intelliden R-Series allows for flexible service definitions for VPNs, VLANs and other IP network services. New services can be deployed within minutes or hours rather than days or weeks, meaning that new revenues are realized more quickly and organizations can respond faster to changing business conditions.
4) Intelliden Security Management Pillar
The Intelliden R-Series Security Management™ pillar protects the network from internal and external threats and enables real-time disaster recovery planning. The solution’s combination of identity-based security with policy-based networking enables better control for granular levels of network access by determining who can implement specific network changes.
Key Supporting Features: The Intelliden R-Series Security Management pillar tightly controls who has access to the network using authentication and authorization procedures. The software enables customers to control access down to the sub-device level. Security Sets™ limit users to viewing and changing only the commands they are authorized to access. The software manages and defines network access to further protect inadvertent or hostile changes to the network. The Intelliden system is designed to monitor realms holistically for network attacks and other out-of-policy changes.
The Intelliden R-Series software suite has a built-in workflow manager for automated control of the network change management process. This workflow management functionality includes grouping and scheduling tasks as units of work; defining different workflows for different types of tasks; and assigning personnel to accomplish their tasks in the workflow. Work can be scheduled for later execution or quickly rescheduled if network conditions change. With the Intelliden R-Series, changes are made only after they’re approved by the appropriate personnel—and if they’re in accordance with business policies. What’s more, the workflow manager can automatically notify supervisors by pager or e-mail once the unit of work completes or fails to complete. Customers can also leverage the Intelliden R-Series OS upgrade manager for management and control of the device OS upgrade process, and have fully audited integration with the overall change management processes for their network devices.
